Advice: Make Time for Success
I recently Tweeted that saying “I’m too busy” is the single biggest cop-out there is. If something, particularly a goal or a dream, is important to you, you’ll find the time to pursue it. You can make time for success. Still, people persist with the excuse that they are too busy. Too busy to work on their dream project, too busy to get into shape, too busy to find a new job or lifestyle they enjoy rather than one they tolerate. The list goes on.
I have a friend who, for the past 25 years, has consistently been “buried” at work. “I’m slammed,” she’ll say. “I’m getting spanked; I don’t have a moment’s peace; I’m up against the impossible.” It’s been her sing-song for a quarter of a century. Let me repeat that—A QUARTER OF A CENTURY.
So, one day a few weeks ago, my phone rings and it’s my friend. She said, “I’m calling you back from the other day.” I responded that she was actually responding to a call I had made to her about three months ago. Predictably, she said that she was swamped at work and hadn’t come up for air. (As an aside, I always seem to learn a new euphemism for “I’m too busy” every time we speak.) I asked if she liked her job, to which she responded that she hated it. I then asked if she had ever gotten around to reading my book. Of course, she said that she hadn’t because she had “gone dark” due to some work projects.
How does this make sense? She’s so busy being miserable that she doesn’t have time to change it? The short answer: It doesn’t.
There’s always time, my friends. ALWAYS. You just need to prioritize what’s important to you. And nothing should be more important than your own happiness.
